Extra care making a big difference for Delcie
An extra care scheme has transformed a resident’s life as she has the support she needs and a home she loves to be in.
Our resident Delcie Taylor, 94, lives at Devonport Views in Plymouth which allows people to live as independently as possible while still being in their own self-contained flats.
As the celebration of Starts at Home Day continues, Delcie has praised the support service for making sure she has what she needs to live independently but also for being a place that has brought her much joy.
Delcie said: “I’m very happy here, we have nice games, and everyone is very friendly. I walk up and do my shopping every day. The only thing I struggle with is my legs, they’re a bit poorly but other than that I’m okay.
“Everything here runs very well so I’m a very, very lucky person. I’ve got a lovely sister, and I had a great husband and I have a lovely family too. We stick together and all my aunties and uncles come and visit me.
Delcie first spotted the scheme back when they were putting in the foundations and feels lucky to have a flat here. She arrived in Devonport Views in 2011 with her husband Alan who sadly passed away in 2015.
She has become a social butterfly and attends as many of the activities she can with supported housing offering her friendly staff and company whether that be day or night, somebody is around.
“LiveWest has been supportive by helping me in lots of ways with my lifestyle. Without this scheme I don’t think I would be as happy. I feel there would be something missing so that’s why I’m so content here.
“Without the support, I wouldn’t have much of a life, but that’s what we’re here for so we have the support.
