Important safety updates for customers
Keeping you safe in your home is a priority for us. As part of this commitment, we are continuing to update the Your safety section of our website with information and advice to help keep you safe. You can read some of our latest updates below.
Electric scooters and bikes
As electric bikes and scooters become more popular, the number of fires being started due to the lithium batteries they use are increasing.
If you own an electric scooter or bike, it is important that you store, charge and use it safely to keep yourself and your neighbours safe. Read our advice on electric scooters and bikes.
Checking appliances ahead of winter
As we move towards the winter months, heating systems will begin to be used more to keep us and our homes warm. Appliances such as boilers should be serviced annually, both to make sure they are working correctly but to also keep you safe from gas leaks and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Getting your appliances serviced ahead of autumn and winter can help to get issues sorted sooner, so you are not left without heating during particularly cold weather.
Find out more about servicing appliances.
Fire doors
Fire doors are an important safety device in homes, helping to contain fires to certain areas to give you time to escape. To help make sure your fire doors are working correctly, you can carry out your own checks outside of the inspections we do to all fire doors in our homes.
Find out more about fire doors and how you can check your own.
Water safety and legionella
Keeping customers safe from legionella is one of our commitments to safety. The bacteria can lead to Legionnaires disease, which can be dangerous, especially for people who are older, those with illnesses like cancer, or respiratory issues.
We carry out risk assessments to ensure customers are kept safe, but there are steps you can take to keep yourself safe too. Take a look at our water safety leaflet for more information.
Priority Services Register
Did you know that energy companies have a register of vulnerable people that they will prioritise in the event of a power cut? The Priority Services Register was created so that elderly, ill or people with disabilities or medical dependencies can get help.
Find out more about the register and see if you are eligible.
