Sue and her daughter happily begin new chapter in their affordable home

The pair are excited to settle down in their new energy-efficient flat, thanks to our support.
Sue and her daughter Olivia at St Budeaux's community library.

After living in emergency accommodation for a few months, Sue and Olivia, aged seven, are delighted to settle down under one roof and begin their next chapter.

With Gabriel the cat being able to return home, the family of three are overjoyed to move into one of our new affordable developments in Plymouth and for Olivia to have her own bedroom.

Sue Jobling reflects last few months in her new home and our support. She said: “We ended up in emergency accommodation… so we are really impressed with the turnaround, and everybody has been happy to help out and LiveWest have been really amazing. They’ve been so supportive.

“My daughter is so happy she has her own bedroom back and we managed to get the cat back as well. We are like a happy little family again.

“We are safe and secure, and you can’t put a price on that. It’s an amazing feeling just knowing that we can shut the door at the end of the day.

“This is a new chapter. We are in our new home, and we are very happy.”

Our new affordable housing scheme in St Budeaux, Plymouth has seen 24 homes for social rent and a local library incorporated into the scheme, which Sue believes is a fantastic idea - especially as her daughter loves to read.

Leased by Plymouth City Council, the library is a great way to bring our residents and the local community together and offer our support.

Sue said: “It’s fantastic that LiveWest have incorporated a library into this scheme because it also introduces children to the libraries.

“You have the access to the internet or the warm spaces or information about food banks, everything is right where you need it, and I can’t put it into words to be honest. It’s a really brilliant idea.”

The project benefitted from grant funding from our strategic partnership with Homes England, the Government’s housing and regeneration agency.

Our energy-efficient homes have also benefitted from PV panels and high-quality insulation, which has helped our residents with lower energy bills.

With our renewable technologies, this will help reduce energy consumption in the flats and communal areas which will have a positive impact on service charges.

“It’s such a lovely area to be in. The building is wonderful, and everyone is really friendly, it’s clean and it’s lovely. It’s a really nice spacious flat, I love it," she smiled.

“When we moved in, it’s had been freezing outside but I didn’t have to put the heating on once. I kept on looking at the thermostat and it’s a constant 21 degrees in the flat.

“I did a few meter readings for my energy supplier, and they couldn’t believe how low it was so they’re sending someone out to read the meter because they don’t believe me.

“Especially with the cost of everything at the moment, with food being so expensive, it is one less worry with our energy bills which is fantastic."
