Our colleagues help a customer move from supported housing to their own home

We're highlighting the value of support services and the difference it can make to our customers with Starts at Home Day.
Starts at Home Day

To celebrate Starts at Home Day, a campaign which highlights the importance of offering supported housing to those who need the extra assistance, LiveWest shares the help it gave to a customer.

J lived in Albert Place, a supported housing scheme in Cornwall. After many years in various supported accommodation, J has moved from Albert Place supported housing into his own home which is promoting his independence.

J moved into his own accommodation he was offered through Homechoice. This is the next step for J, to enable him to lead an independent and fulfilling life. He also received some support from Restore, a Church project that supplies second hand goods.

J received a new cooker from us through the Household Support Grant which enabled him to cook full meals from scratch for himself. This is a skill he worked on during his time at Albert Place, as when J came to the scheme, he was only eating prepacked sandwiches and fast food.

Alongside the support we gave, J was actively engaged with Pentreat, a charity that supports people with mental health issues to access training and employment, and since working with them, he is optimistic that he will be able to start some voluntary work which will enable him to return to the workplace.

J has always been polite and respectful to staff, agencies and other residents. He has always paid his service charge and keeps his accommodation well maintained which will assist him in maintaining his own tenancy.

The support has continued through LiveWest support workers who helped him find a local support group to attend which he has settled into well.
