Working in partnership with Jones Building Group a plan for 25 new homes in Isaacs Close in Street were planned. The plans were amended to build 24 homes instead though so the route of an existing pathway could be retained to help Keith Evett and his guide dog cross the road safely and walk into town.
Our New Business Manager, David Summerhill said: “As an organisation which cares about the wellbeing of our customers, we were delighted to be able amend our plans and help one of our neighbours.
“With our partners, the Jones Building Group, we improved the existing pathway opposite Keith’s home to ensure he could get about more easily and wouldn’t have to learn a new route.
“We are delighted with the whole development which brings affordable housing to Street.”
Mark Porter, Managing Director at Jones Building Group said: “When we were aware of Mr Evett’s circumstances we were more than happy to work with LiveWest to accommodate changes to the scheme. I am pleased that my team were able to help Mr Evett.”
Street Parish Councillor, Peter Goater, said: “Street Parish Council are delighted that this upgrade was done. It shows that Jones Building Group and LiveWest are community minded companies who care about people."
The new development, called Appletree Court, includes 17 bungalows and seven flats plus an office for supported housing which have been arranged over two floors.
The homes have been specifically designed for adults with additional support needs.
They are boosted by the use of technology which maximises independence, including automated curtain opening, light control, a door entry system and care pendants for emergencies.
The development benefits from onsite care staff provided by Discovery, who provide care for people with learning disabilities and autism.
The development also includes seven shared ownership properties. Take a look at our shared ownership properties here.
