More affordable homes being developed at Uffculme

Our commitment to building rural homes is further demonstrated as work starts on the second phase of development in the idyllic village
Uffculme

The second phase of developing affordable homes in the village of Uffculme has been launched.

The first major housing development in the village for 20 years was completed earlier this year which included 11 homes for rent, 10 for shared ownership and 39 for open market sale.

Now we have partnered with Lovell on another collaborative project to develop an additional 30 homes in the idyllic rural location.

Work started last month and the project is set to take around 18 months to complete with the first residents expected to move in towards the summer of 2022.

Leon Harris, Senior Development Manager for LiveWest, said: “These homes at Uffculme are supporting the growth of this beautiful rural community.

“Rural house building can be key to the survival of vital community assets and services, such as schools, post offices and pubs and we know these homes will really make a difference.

“We are really delighted with the continuing success of this project and to strengthen LiveWest’s commitment to rural housing with the start of Phase Two which includes an additional 30 homes.

“In total across the two phases we will be providing 32 low-cost homes supporting many local families that would be otherwise priced out of the area to stay within their community.

“Alongside the homes we are also providing large green open-spaces for the residents, as well as a financial contribution towards the up-grade of off-site play areas within the village, and a large financial contribution towards primary schooling in Uffculme.”

Andrew Johnston, Regional Managing Director at Lovell, Southern Region, added: “Lovell is delighted to have been chosen by LiveWest for phase two of this exciting housing development in Uffculme.”

As part of our commitment to the environment, the social housing provider is working with Lovell to develop edible landscaping which will see the growth of food-producing plants within the residential landscape.

The new homes will meet our new sustainable homes standards as part of our eco-strategy ‘Creating Greener Futures Together’, which was launched at the end of 2020.

All of homes will be insulated to a higher standard than required by the building regulations and will have high energy efficiency scores.

As part of this new development, the provision for home offices have been included in the design and provision for car charging has been introduced to all garages.

We have invested in upgrade works to the main road into Uffculme, including provision of two new bus stops.

New trees have been planted on the scheme as well as plants that have been specifically selected to attract and sustain local wildlife.

Bird and bat boxes have been provided throughout the estate and residents will be encouraged to enjoy picnic tables in the green space to really make the most of the rural surroundings.

The homes are set on the edge of the village of Uffculme, situated on the River Culm close to the Blackdown Hills, an area of natural beauty.

The village has a primary and secondary school, local shop, pub and busy community centre and is nearby to Tiverton.
