Justine Cheffers LiveWest’s Community Connector in Plymouth has helped to reinstate the local residents committee hosting an AGM with new Chair’s elected to enable the residents to have a powerful collective voice.

As part of this the communal room was reopened and a resident led community event took place to bring neighbors together after months of being apart during lockdown.

St Therese's Court in Devonport is sheltered housing for over 55’s and is home to over 40 residents. As well as focusing on issues around the scheme where they live it is hoped that the new resident committee will help to run gardening groups and community events to help tackle loneliness and help neighbours look out for each other’s wellbeing. This is starting with a resident Christmas dinner in December.

Justine Cheffers, Community Connector at LiveWest, said: “Our customers’ wellbeing is important to us. During the past months of lockdown, many people have not been able to engage with their neighbours face to face. I was delighted to reinstate the residents committee and help get organised activities in the communal area back up and running. These communal areas are really important to support people to socialise and enhance wellbeing for a healthier community.”

The new residents committee have already secured a grant for new communal equipment through LiveWest including funding for new Christmas decorations, a laptop and new equipment for catering.
