Construction work has started on 195 new affordable homes in Launceston. LiveWest and Vistry Group are building the site in partnership together.
All the homes are being delivered in affordable tenures, giving local people opportunities to own or rent an affordable home in Cornwall.
The site, located to the south-east of Launceston and adjacent to the A388 Tavistock Road, forms part of a strategic growth area that Cornwall Council has identified could deliver up to 300 homes.
Gareth Jones, our Development Director, said: “We are committed to providing good quality, affordable homes and creating thriving communities.
“Our partnership with Vistry at Launceston will make a significant difference to people in need of affordable housing in the town. We are pleased to play our part in meeting the housing shortage and in making lasting change.”
Anthony Eke, our New Business Manager, said: “We work on the front end of the development so we are here looking for new opportunities both in terms of section 106 deliveries and our new build schemes like this one where we are developing 195 homes which will be 100 per cent affordable.”
Alongside the new homes, new areas of open space will be created, including a series of areas for children’s play opportunities. The development will also contribute to the creation of the new Southern Loop Road.
Robert Cock, our Head of Delivery in Housing Development, added: “This scheme in partnership with Vistry has come about as part of our ongoing relationship, we’ve done many schemes recently with Vistry but this represents our biggest site with them.
“There is a housing crisis in Cornwall with Cornwall Council having an extreme housing need, there are over 10,000 people on the housing register seeking accommodation so it’s going to be really important that we can build this development to service that need.”
Peter Sadler, Managing Director Vistry Cornwall South West, said: “This important new development is providing a major contribution to Launceston’s affordable housing supply, helping local people to find a quality new home, whilst also improving local transport infrastructure and creating new areas of outside space.
"We’re delighted to see work is underway and look forward to seeing the first homes completed by spring 2026.”
