How can I save water in my garden?
To save water in your garden, you can:
- Think about getting a water butt. You will then be able to use rainwater instead of tap water to water plants.
- Use grey water from your bath or shower to water your plants. To do this you could use a water diverter which diverts water from your bath or shower into a garden water butt.
- Try to plant plants that demand less water.
- Use a watering can rather than a hose to ensure you don’t over water.
- Water the plants at their roots rather than on the leaves.
- Although a brown lawn may not look nice, grass is resilient and will bounce back as soon as the rain comes. Unless the lawn is newly laid, there is no need to water your lawn.
- Water butts should be cleaned annually to help keep you safe from legionella, a bacteria which can thrive when water is between 20 to 45 degrees celsius. Read our water safety leaflet for more information on staying safe from legionella.
