How can I use less energy when cooking?
To use less energy when cooking, we recommend:
- Microwaves, slow cookers and air fryers are all more energy efficient than an oven. Using one of these appliances to cook your meals will save energy and likely save you money. See our Slow Cook, Low Waste recipe booklet from some great slow cooker recipes designed to reduce food waste.
- Investing in a pressure cooker could mean that meals are cooked in half the time, when compared to using your hob or oven. You will be surprised at how many different meals you can make in them.
- Cover your pots and pans when using them on the hob. Water will boil faster this way and it will use less energy to heat your food.
