Getting ready for spring, we welcome new trees to one of our schemes

In the heart of tree planting season, one of our Devon schemes receives new trees.
Two LiveWest colleagues are standing by one of the trees they have planted.

We have brightened up one our communities in Barne Barton, Devon with 56 beautiful trees as part of a Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest scheme, a Plymouth City Council led project which is boosting new woodland areas throughout South Devon.

With trees provided through our partnership with the local council, we are excited to join forces and take further steps to help the environment and make our communities greener.

The large variety of trees included beech, oak and chestnut trees which will also help the local wildlife and brighten our community for the summer.

Our Tree Officer, Owain Holland, said: “After almost a year of planning, discussions, and consultations, we are delighted to work with Plymouth City Council to implement our planting scheme.

“It was great to kick start our scheme and increase the number of trees in the area on such a beautiful day.

“It’s fantastic to see new trees at our schemes in Barne Barton and hopefully, we will see the benefits from the increased greenery and flowers in a few years’ time. I can’t wait to see it!”

Through using one of their volunteer days, Owain was joined by Thomas Davis, a LiveWest Electrician and one of our Account Managers, Richard Cuthbert.

Owain added: “My colleagues, Thomas and Richard, used one of their volunteer days which is offered by LiveWest to encourage more of its colleagues across the business to get involved in our communities across the South West.

“It’s great that we have our volunteering days as it means we offer more skills across the organisation. For example, Thomas is an electrician for the business, and it means he can get involved in our community in a different way though planting trees, which improves the environment and helps our wellbeing."

At LiveWest we offer our colleagues up to four volunteer days a year to encourage them  to get more involved in our communities. These days can include helping at an event, planting trees and being involved in a community project.

Last year, we planted nearly a hundred trees in our local communities, and we will continue to plant more trees across the South West this year too.

With the new trees getting settled in time for Spring, Councillor Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, said: “We'd like to thank LiveWest for their time in helping us to plant these lovely trees, which will be of massive benefit to the residents of Barne Barton for many generations to come.

“These trees make up a handful of the 3,500 trees we'll be planting in Plymouth this Spring and I look forward to seeing them mature over the coming years."

The Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest is a partnership between Plymouth City Council, National Trust, Woodland Trust, South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council, and is funded through the DEFRA Nature for Climate fund.
