How can I encourage wildlife into my garden?
It is important that we make space for nature in our gardens, especially when surrounding natural habitats are becoming increasingly threatened.
Some ideas of how you could help are:
- Planting insect friendly plants. Your local garden centre will be able to help you find the right plants for your garden
- Getting a bird feeder. This is a great way of encouraging birds into your garden. Remember to clear up any food that has fallen onto the ground as this can encourage unwanted garden pests.
- Create a hedgehog highway. Small sections cut out of wooden fences at ground level allow hedgehogs to move between gardens.
- Build a mini pond. An old sink or plant pot filled with water and oxygenating plants can create an instant refuge for wildlife, attracting frogs, birds and insects to your garden.
